Our Labrador Program

Labrador Retrievers
Built in the Field.

We believe a hunting Labrador Retriever should be more than impressive on paper.

Pedigrees and genetics establish potential. What a dog becomes depends
on development, exposure, experience, temperament, and thousands of
small decisions made throughout its life.

Our Labradors are exposed to birds, water, changing terrain, travel,
unfamiliar environments, other dogs, and the realities of hunting
as their age and development allow.

The goal is a Labrador that is useful in the field, enjoyable at home,
confident in new environments, and capable of continuing to learn
throughout its life.

What Matters

More Than a Pedigree.

A pedigree tells us where a Labrador came from.
Development shows us what that dog can become.

01

Temperament

Confidence, stability, cooperation and resilience matter
as much as performance.

02

Trainability

We value Labradors that want to work with their handler
and remain eager to learn.

03

Hunting Ability

Bird drive, retrieving desire, water confidence and practical
hunting instincts are central to the program.

04

Soundness

Genetics, structure, conditioning and responsible breeding
decisions support long-term ability.

05

Versatility

The ideal Labrador moves comfortably between the field,
travel, training and family life.

06

Partnership

Ultimately, a Labrador should become a trusted partner whose
value extends beyond a single hunting season.

Health & Genetics

Breeding Decisions With the Future in Mind.

A Labrador Retriever breeding program should consider more than
appearance or pedigree names. We evaluate the complete dog:
temperament, working ability, structure, health information,
genetics and trainability.

  • Genetic testing
  • Orthopedic evaluation
  • Pedigree evaluation
  • Temperament assessment
  • Working ability
  • Documented health records

The goal is not simply to produce another Labrador.
The goal is to produce Labradors worth building a program around.

Proven Through Experience

Hunting Dogs Should Hunt.

Training establishes skills. Hunting reveals how those skills
function when conditions are no longer controlled.

Wind, water, birds, terrain, excitement, unfamiliar locations,
changing weather and long days create situations that cannot be
perfectly duplicated in training.

Those experiences are why real hunting remains an important part
of how Childress Creek Kennels develops Labrador Retrievers.
